VRX was project manager for this emergency project, acting as the NTTA’s “eyes and ears” in the field. On January 31, 2010, Wall 301 moved more than 5 feet laterally into the main lanes of the President George Bush Turnpike. A 24-hour-a-day retaining wall deconstruction project began on February 1, and three high speed traffic lanes were restored within six days. The emergency project and stabilization was completed in 26 days. This noteworthy team effort was recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in June 2010 with a Project of the Year Award from the Texas Chapter of APWA. This project was also recognized by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in September 2011 with a national Project of the Year Award.
