As part of the President George Bush Turnpike Mainlane Plaza #7 Operations Building site improvements project for the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), VRX designed intersection and street improvements along Mapleshade Lane, an existing City of Plano arterial street to the north of the facility. VRX was tasked with designing access improvements to the facility from Mapleshade Lane.
VRX analyzed the site and designed schematic level alignments to provide access from the existing parking lots to Mapleshade Lane. VRX designed and prepared construction plans for a 150 LF concrete driveway to access the existing facility. A single lane left-turn lane was designed from Mapleshade Lane according to City of Plano standard details. Existing median noses and curbs were modified to provide vehicle storage and turning movement radii for left turning vehicles.
An additional 4,500 sf of additional parking lot pavement was designed along with parking lot drainage improvements. Sidewalks and pedestrian curb ramps were designed at the driveway intersection to provide access along the driveway from Mapleshade Lane.
The improvements required engineering designed upgrades to the storm sewer system adjacent to Mapleshade Lane to facilitate drainage through the site and driveway. VRX also detailed modifications needed to the existing irrigation system and provided design and details for the relocation of a City of Plano 8” water line and fire hydrant within the City ROW.
VRX represented the NTTA in coordination and project approval with the City of Plano, prepared a substantially conforming site plan, obtained City of Plano approval, and provided construction phase engineering support services.
