Since late 2019, VRX, Inc. has been performing comprehensive PS&E design on multiple projects in the TxDOT Fort Worth District as part of our first prime win of a TxDOT PS&E contract.
VRX has performed PS&E design on multiple concurrent roadway rehabilitation projects, including SH 171 (2 projects), US 67 (2 projects), FM 157, FM 2280, FM 917 (2 projects), and IH 35W in Johnson County, Texas.
The scope varies for each project, but in general includes mill, overlay/inlay, base repair, safety/MBGF compliance, TCP, driveways, H&H analysis, H&H analysis, geotechnical evaluation and pavement design, pavement markings, signals, and utility coordination. Some of deliverables are part of a compressed schedule and some are ahead of letting schedules.
VRX has overcome coordination and communication challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic by using WebEx and Microsoft Teams to check in with the entire team, including sub-consultants, on a weekly basis (and then on a daily basis prior to submittals) and conducting over-the-shoulder QAQC to ensure quality, on-time delivery.
Our Project Manager Abu Zobayed, PE, has maintained the schedule as well as a checklist of submittals/tasks/issues for all projects. He follows up with the team, and provides input and reminders via phone calls, emails, virtual meetings, etc., engaging with our team and TxDOT to ensure smooth, deliberate progress. Because the projects are ongoing currently, Abu staggered key submittals dates to allow adequate time for quality reviews and to avoid design overlap between projects.
